Report: Liverpool Want to Sell Player Arne Slot is Seemingly Keen to Retain at Anfield

Liverpool are reportedly considering the sale of a player that Arne Slot appears eager to keep at Anfield. According to Graeme Bailey for HITC, the club’s executives are hesitant to obstruct Caoimhin Kelleher’s departure if he desires to leave this summer.

Kelleher expressed a willingness to move on following the end of last season if it would help him secure a regular starting position.

Although the new head coach holds the 25-year-old in high regard, Kelleher is thought to be feeling ‘unsettled’ about potentially spending another season as a backup to Alisson Becker. Becker may be offered a contract extension in the near future, adding to Kelleher’s concerns.

Bailey also mentioned that several Premier League teams are in search of a new goalkeeper. Clubs such as Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, Wolves, and Leicester City could be potential suitors for Liverpool’s second-choice goalkeeper if it becomes apparent that the club is open to selling him.

Kelleher has showcased his talents during Liverpool’s pre-season over the past fortnight, much like he did earlier this year when filling in for Alisson during the Brazilian’s injury absence. While Alisson has enjoyed some time off after the Copa America, Kelleher has proven his worth.

Unfortunately for the Irishman, his rise at Anfield coincided with the presence of one of the world’s best goalkeepers at the club. As a result, it’s understandable if Kelleher considers moving on this summer.

The Cork native will turn 26 in November and has made just 47 appearances for Liverpool’s first team, never having been loaned out. Recent performances suggest he is more than capable of starting regularly in the Premier League.

Similar to David Lynch’s comments about Conor Bradley, Kelleher would be a strong fit for nearly every team in the English top flight, including the four clubs mentioned by Bailey, without undermining the current goalkeepers at those clubs.

With reports suggesting Liverpool might pursue Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili to replace Alisson, Kelleher must be questioning if he will ever get a long-term chance at Anfield.

Should a decision be made to sell the Republic of Ireland international, it is crucial that Liverpool secure a fair price for him.

Players of Kelleher’s caliber should not be disposed of lightly, and Slot would be very hesitant to lose him.
