Tyler Morton Names the “Brilliant” Liverpool Player Who Has Been on “a Different Level” in Pre-season

Liverpool’s young players have had a fruitful pre-season experience in the United States. With many first-team players either unavailable or on vacation, Arne Slot led a predominantly youthful squad to America.

Although a few notable names like Dominik Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah have been present, the squad has largely had a more peripheral feel.

This situation might not be ideal for key Liverpool players as they adapt to the new head coach’s tactics, but it could be advantageous for the long-term development of those who might otherwise have had fewer opportunities to showcase their abilities.

Tyler Morton, in particular, appears to have gained from this scenario. The 21-year-old has participated in both of Liverpool’s matches so far, filling in for more experienced players like Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch.

Tyler Morton Lauds Harvey Elliott for His Contribution

Although Morton has experienced some action in the US, the academy graduate might have hoped for more opportunities.

With Wataru Endo available for transfer, there could be a chance for a spot in Slot’s midfield. However, Morton has yet to fully seize this opportunity.

In contrast, Harvey Elliott has capitalised on the absence of some key players. Elliott provided two impressive assists in Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal. The 21-year-old has started both games so far in a more advanced midfield position, showing he is well-suited to playing under Slot.

Despite Slot’s somewhat critical comments about Elliott following the Arsenal match, Morton has praised the young player, noting that Elliott has been a pleasure to watch during his time in America.

“He’s different class,” Morton tells liverpolfc.com. “Different class as a player, different class as a lad.

“Everyone loves him and he is a brilliant footballer,” he adds. “To watch him play out there, everyone comments on it: he’s class to watch, he’s got something different to a lot of players.

“I don’t want to big him up too much! But he looked like a different level out there, so big credit to him and big credit to the team that helped him perform like that.”

Both Morton and Slot have valid assessments regarding Elliott’s performance in the match against Arsenal.

At certain moments, Elliott, formerly of Fulham, appeared to be the standout player on the field, with his assist for Fabio Carvalho being a notable highlight.

However, there were instances where Elliott’s play could have been improved, which was a critique made by Slot.

Despite the mixed reviews, the ultimate judgment lies with the Liverpool fans. It’s evident that they were enthusiastic about Elliott’s showing against Arsenal.

At 21, it’s easy to overlook that Harvey remains quite young. With over 100 appearances for Liverpool already, it seems his best performances might still be ahead of him.
