Journalist States Three Primary Reasons Liverpool Rebuffed £11.8m Bid for Wataru Endo

It was revealed on Sunday night that Liverpool had turned down a €14 million (£11.8 million) offer from Marseille for Wataru Endo.

James Pearce of The Athletic reported this development, outlining three key reasons why Liverpool decided to reject the bid from the Ligue 1 club.

The timing of the offer, a lack of market opportunities in terms of signing a replacement, and the current needs of the squad with which Arne Slot is working are the significant factors in the decision from Anfield chiefs, as per the journalist.

It remains uncertain whether Marseille will make another attempt to sign Endo, especially since he is also drawing interest from several Bundesliga clubs.

Even though Endo’s performance against Real Betis on Friday night was less than impressive, Liverpool would be unwise to allow his departure without securing a replacement defensive midfielder, unless an exceptionally tempting offer is presented.

Despite having the 31-year-old at Anfield, along with Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones, and Stefan Bajcetic who can all play as a number 6, Liverpool’s current transfer window priorities include strengthening that position, according to Richard Hughes.

After acquiring Endo for £16 million from Stuttgart last August, following failed attempts to sign Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo, Liverpool might have considered Marseille’s bid if they had already acquired a suitable holding midfielder this summer.

Given these circumstances, Liverpool made the right decision in rejecting the offer for a player who provided valuable experience and reliability in midfield for much of last season and who could be a crucial asset as the new season approaches.
