Liverpool Player Says He’s Ready to Stay at Anfield to Prove His Worth to Arne Slot Next Season

Fabio Carvalho is determined to prove his worth to Liverpool’s new manager, Arne Slot, that he has what it takes to remain at Anfield next season and compete for a spot in a highly competitive attacking lineup.

The Portuguese joined Liverpool from Fulham in 2022, spent last season on loan with RB Leipzig and Hull City. He performed notably well at Hull City after a challenging period in Germany and now believes he can reach his full potential at Liverpool.

At the start of pre-season, Slot had a conversation with Carvalho and indicated that he envisions the player’s best role as a winger, even though Carvalho considers himself more effective as a No 10.

The Dutch manager has been actively working with Carvalho on the training field, providing him with detailed guidance and instruction.

And the 22-year-old said: “We spoke about (my position) and he told me to try and settle on the wing but obviously I know where I play best and I feel that is as a No 10. I’m just going to do what he wants me to do and just work as hard as I can for him.

“He’s giving me good instructions and motivating me a lot in training and giving me that confidence.

“We’ve had a few conversations (about future) which I’m not going to go into detail about but he wants me to get my head down and work hard and see where that goes.”

Carvalho is attracting interest from numerous clubs this summer, with a transfer likely being the preferred option over another loan.

His previous team, Fulham, along with Leicester and Southampton, have shown interest. Additionally, several European clubs are also keen on him.

Asked about his loan experience, Carvalho said: “It was crucial, I needed game time and I was happy when I was playing. Every footballer wants to be playing week in and week out and I feel I got the best of myself when I was there and playing.

“That’s what it is all about. Not just for me but for everyone involved. There’s good chances for the young players (in this pre-season), for myself as well. It’s a good chance for everyone to put their foot down and stamp their mark.”

Carvalho and his Liverpool teammates were scheduled to fly to Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon following their 1-0 victory over Real Betis in a friendly match in Pittsburgh.

As they travel across Pennsylvania, they await updates on Curtis Jones, who sustained a muscle injury during the match against the Spanish side.

Slot’s team will face Arsenal at Lincoln Financial Field on Wednesday. Diogo Jota has rejoined the squad, but it is thought that the Portugal international may not play against Arsenal and will instead make his first appearance of the summer for the Reds in the final tour match.
