Trent Replacement: Liverpool Will Go After 24-year-old Titles Winner If Contract Agreement Fails – Report

Liverpool are preparing for the possibility of Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving the club and have identified a potential replacement.

The club is aware that Alexander-Arnold, a key player who has progressed through their academy, might not extend his contract, which has sparked interest from Real Madrid. His close relationship with Jude Bellingham, who is performing well at Madrid, has fueled these speculations.

Recognised as a crucial player for Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold is seen as a future captain, especially as current captain Virgil van Dijk ages. Liverpool are keen on securing his future, with his current contract set to expire in 2025.

According to CaughtOffside, negotiations are ongoing between Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold’s representatives, aiming to extend his contract until 2028 or 2029.

Despite these efforts, Liverpool are monitoring another right-back as a contingency plan. If Alexander-Arnold does not agree to new terms, the club is interested in signing Lutsharel Geertruida as a potential replacement, as per Sport Bible.

The 24-year-old, who plays for Feyenoord, has worked under the new Liverpool manager Arne Slot. During their time together, they secured victories in both the KNVB Cup and Eredivisie titles.

The player’s versatility is notable; he can operate as a centre-back or serve as a defensive midfielder, which adds to his attractiveness as a transfer target.

Slot is supportive of the potential transfer, but Liverpool are cautious about rushing the deal, especially in light of Northern Ireland’s rising star Conor Bradley from last season.

However, postponing the move might be risky, as Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal are also interested in acquiring Geertruida.

Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold is currently on a break following Euro 2024 and is not expected to participate in the initial pre-season activities.

Liverpool have traveled to the United States for a tour, taking 28 players with them. Notably, youngsters Jayden Danns and Bobby Clark are absent, but key players like Mo Salah, Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, Andy Robertson, Harvey Elliott, and Curtis Jones are included.
