“I Can Tell You”: Liverpool Think £38m Player is “Very Talented” and Could Move to Sign Him – Fabrizio Romano

Liverpool are maintaining a low profile during the summer transfer window. With the conclusion of international tournaments, the Reds may have more flexibility to make moves.

However, with the upcoming tour to the USA approaching, they need to act swiftly to bring in new players before their departure.

Arne Slot will benefit from the return of players who participated in the Copa America and Euro 2024 to the AXA Training Centre.

As he evaluates the Liverpool squad, Slot might conclude that the current roster is sufficient for the upcoming season. Nevertheless, the Reds are still exploring their options in the transfer market.

Liverpool Monitoring Mohamed Simakan

By the end of last season, it appeared likely that Liverpool would secure a centre-back this summer.

With Joel Matip’s departure and Ibrahima Konate’s struggles with form and fitness, reinforcing the defense seemed essential.

Despite Liverpool’s strong interest in Leny Yoro, there is no indication that a defensive reinforcement is imminent.

Yoro seems more likely to join Real Madrid than Liverpool, with the latter’s interest appearing more opportunistic.

As the 18-year-old prospect appears to be heading elsewhere, Liverpool will need to explore other options for defensive signings.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on Playback that Liverpool are still considering alternatives, specifically “tracking” that they are monitoring RB Leipzig centre-back Mohamed Simakan.

“What I can tell you is that people on the board of Liverpool have been tracking Mo Simakan and know him very well,” says Romano. “They have been following the player and they believe he’s a very talented defender.

“At the moment there are no concrete negotiations between the agents of Simakan and Liverpool or Liverpool and Leipzig, so that is the situation,” he adds. “But I can confirm he’s one of many centre-backs they have been tracking.”

Liverpool’s interest in Mohamed Simakan won’t come as a shock to those familiar with the team’s transfer strategies.

The Reds have a history of successful transactions with RB Leipzig. They have secured deals for Naby Keita, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ibrahima Konate since 2018, showcasing their preference for players from the German club.

Any standout player from RB Leipzig is worth monitoring from Liverpool’s perspective.

Simakan fits the profile of a typical Liverpool signing. At 24 years old, he is versatile, capable of playing both right-back and centre-back, and has nearly 200 professional appearances. Journalist Philipp Hinze reports that the defender could be available for around £38 million.

A France U21 international, Simakan joined Leipzig in 2021 from Strasbourg, where he started his professional career. He has become a regular fixture in the team, amassing 120 appearances over three seasons.
