Former Liverpool Manager Makes Confident England Prediction and Names His Euro 2024 Potential Winners
England have advanced to the last 16 of Euro 2024, but when Jurgen Klopp was asked to name his potential winners, they weren’t the first team he mentioned.
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes that England’s performances at Euro 2024 will inevitably improve, but he has refrained from naming them as his favorites to win the tournament.
England advanced to the quarter-finals in Germany after a comeback victory over Slovakia in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday.
Gareth Southgate’s team seemed to be on the brink of elimination until Jude Bellingham scored a remarkable overhead kick equalizer in the fifth minute of added time. Then, captain Harry Kane headed in the winner in the first minute of extra time.
England will now face Switzerland in the quarter-finals, and Klopp mentioned them when asked for his tournament favorite during an appearance at the Mallorca Tennis Championships.
Klopp has relocated to Mallorca after building a villa on the Balearic island. He seemed to be in a relaxed mood, donning a Germany shirt and an Adidas cap, while watching a tennis tournament.
In an interview with Spanish presenter Agos Larocca and the Mallorca Tennis Championships’ Instagram account, Klopp remarked: “At the moment it looks a little bit like Spain could do it, but Germany Is good, France can be good, and England will be better, definitely.”
The interview appears to have been recorded before Sunday’s last-16 matches. When asked about his pick for the Copa America winner, Klopp gave a diplomatic answer to avoid upsetting any of his former players.
A smiling Klopp said simply: “Argentina. Or Brazil. Or Colombia. Or Uruguay!” He then added: “I texted yesterday with Alisson, I cannot make that decision.”
In addition to Alisson representing Brazil, Liverpool stars Alexis Mac Allister, Luis Diaz, and Darwin Nunez are currently shining in the tournament with Argentina, Colombia, and Uruguay, respectively.
Klopp was also asked about his time in Mallorca and his passion for tennis. He praised the exceptional qualities of tennis legends Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.
On Mallorca, he said: “Where can I start? I pretty much like everything about it, to be honest. But I am not long enough here yet. We tried to figure out what we like most.”
