Fabrizio Romano Reveals 12-goal Winger’s Stance on Liverpool Transfer

England winger Anthony Gordon has been linked with a substantial transfer from Newcastle to Liverpool.

According to report, Anthony Gordon is open to Liverpool transfer this summer despite his successful stint at Newcastle. The England international, who is currently participating in Euro 2024 with his national team, has just completed the most impressive season of his career in his first full campaign with the Magpies.

The 23-year-old, who joined Newcastle from Everton for £45 million in January 2023, scored 12 goals and provided 11 assists in 48 games across all competitions under the management of Eddie Howe.

Gordon’s performance earned him a spot in England’s 26-man squad for the Euros, surpassing established players like Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish, and Marcus Rashford, all of whom have more extensive senior international experience.

Liverpool have recently engaged in talks regarding the signing of the former Everton forward. However, discussions between the two clubs broke down when the Reds refused to consider including centre-back Jarell Quansah in a part-exchange deal.

According to The Guardian, Liverpool are still interested in signing Gordon, even though the initial talks fell through. They might resume negotiations.

Fabrizio Romano, speaking on Playback, reported that Gordon is open to a move to Anfield. The forward, who grew up as a Liverpool fan, has expressed his admiration for the club’s legendary former captain, Steven Gerrard.

Gordon told Gary Neville on The Overlap: “Steven Gerrard was my football hero growing up. Coming from Liverpool, he was like a God in Liverpool, and he was an unbelievable player.”

Liverpool may still solidify their interest in Gordon with a bid before the Premier League’s accounting deadline on Sunday. The potential cost of such a move remains uncertain.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have agreed to a £33 million deal to send 19-year-old winger Yankuba Minteh to Brighton to alleviate their financial concerns.

Minteh, who has never played for Newcastle, enjoyed a successful loan spell at Feyenoord last season under the management of new Liverpool boss Arne Slot.

Everton had engaged in discussions about signing the Gambian winger but failed to reach an agreement over a swap deal involving Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The northeast club face pressure to meet the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability regulations and has initiated talks about offloading several players.

They have contacted Chelsea about transferring Alexander Isak to Stamford Bridge, with an anticipated asking price of up to £150 million for the Swedish player.

Newcastle is also negotiating with Nottingham Forest on a potential deal that would bring Isak’s international teammate, Anthony Elanga, to St James’ Park, while sending Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest.
