Liverpool May Finalize Their First Summer Signing Today as Approach is Not Ruled Out

Liverpool reportedly remain interested in signing Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon, despite a previous deal falling through.

Newcastle United may need to make a sale by tonight (30 June) to meet the Premier League’s financial deadline and comply with profit and sustainability regulations.

Magpies players Alexander Isak and Yankuba Minteh have also been rumored to be on their way out, but it might be Gordon who gets sold.

The winger, who joined Newcastle for £45 million from Everton in January 2023, had an impressive 2023-24 season. He scored 11 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 appearances, earning him a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad.

Although Eddie Howe’s team would certainly prefer to keep Gordon at St James’ Park, they might be forced to sell him.

Liverpool engaged in discussions earlier this week but refused to include center-back Jarell Quansah as part of the deal.

The 21-year-old is highly valued at Anfield following a breakout season that earned him a spot in England’s provisional Euros squad.

The Guardian reports that Liverpool remain interested in Gordon, indicating there is still a chance he could move to Anfield this week.

While no offer has been made, Newcastle have not ruled out Gordon’s departure, who is also sought after by PSG.

Additionally, it is suggested that there will be an “alarm” on Tyneside over the idea that Newcastle might be open to selling their star players.
