Hansi Flick, who has a strong link with Kimmich from their time at Bayern Munich, has taken over as manager, but Barcelona president Joan Laporta is now targeting other midfielders such as Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino and Everton’s Amadou Onana.
According to the Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Bayern Munich are prepared to sell Kimmich this summer, with several top Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, showing interest.
The 29-year-old Bayern Munich’s captain has been a key player for the team for many years. His contract expires next summer, but Bayern Munich have no plans to extend it, risking his departure on a free transfer in 2025.
Reports indicate that Bayern have set a price tag of €30 million to €40 million for the player. There is a strong possibility that Kimmich will leave the club this summer, and Barcelona’s hesitation to pursue him aggressively has opened the door for Premier League clubs.
However, no decision on his future has been made yet, and no further updates are expected until after Germany’s participation in the 2024 Euros.
Barcelona’s withdrawal from the race for Kimmich is a huge boost for Liverpool. With Thiago Alcantara’s departure at the end of last season, there is a vacant spot in the Reds’ squad that new manager Arne Slot must fill.
Kimmich would be an excellent candidate to potentially replace Thiago in the Liverpool squad. Although their playing styles differ, Kimmich would bring the winning mentality and European experience that Liverpool lost with Thiago’s departure.
Moreover, the Germany international’s ability to play both in midfield and at right-back would be invaluable for Arne Slot as he prepares for the 2024/25 season.
Considering Kimmich’s proven winning record, leadership qualities, and extensive experience at the highest level, a fee of €30m to €40m is a bargain we must pursue for his signature.
