“He is Always There” – Darwin Nunez Names Ex-Liverpool Player Who Has Been Helping Him Through Spell at Anfield

Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez has disclosed that he is in regular contact with a highly influential striker as he prepares for the new season.

Since his £80 million transfer from SL Benfica to Liverpool in the summer of 2022, Nunez has faced significant criticism. The Uruguayan forward has struggled with inconsistent form and difficulty in scoring goals, making his transition to Anfield challenging. Last season, he managed to score 18 goals across all competitions for the Reds.

However, with former Feyenoord boss Arne Slot, known for revitalising his strikers, set to take over, Nunez sees this as a new beginning for his career.

Nunez Reveals Liverpool Legend Has Been Helping Him

Nunez might benefit from studying some of the exceptional strikers who have played for Liverpool, especially those from the past two decades.

From Roberto Firmino and Fernando Torres to Robbie Fowler, the Reds have boasted a wealth of top-class strikers. In a recent interview, Nunez shared that another legendary Liverpool forward, Luis Suarez, who netted 69 goals at Anfield, has offered him advice.

“More than anything, you always need the support of your teammates,” he told Mediotempo, during his time at the Copa America.

“I think that in the national team today we have a beautiful group, a group that if a player is bad, we know that references like Luis Suárez are going to come, who is always there, there giving advice.

“I always try to get together with him, to talk about football things, about his past. He is always there to give me advice and I take everything as positive and try applying it.”

Nunez Would Be Wise to Follow in Suarez’s Footsteps

Despite occasional off-field controversies, there’s no denying that Luis Suarez was one of the standout strikers of the decade.

Teaming up with Daniel Sturridge, Suarez came close to securing Liverpool their maiden Premier League title in the 2013-14 season.

The iconic forward later transferred to Barcelona and is now approaching the twilight of his career. With 68 goals in 138 appearances for his national team, Nunez would be wise to glean insights from the 37-year-old.
