‘I Can Guarantee That’: Fabrizio Romano Shares Update on Claims Liverpool Want to Sign £846m Player

Liverpool have been linked with potential signings of several players since the beginning of 2024. As the Reds prepare to say goodbye to Jurgen Klopp in a few weeks, the manager will be departing after nearly eight years with the club.

Arne Slot is expected to step into Klopp’s shoes, undoubtedly eyeing some fresh signings once the summer transfer market kicks off.

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on a player reportedly in talks for a switch to Liverpool.

Fabrizio Romano Shares What He Has Heard About Liverpool and Pedri

Liverpool are anticipated to engage extensively during the approaching summer transfer window.

Any incoming manager would naturally desire to introduce fresh faces into the squad, and since the beginning of 2024, the Reds have been associated with more than a dozen potential signings.

Among the names circulating, one has recently caught attention as a potential target for Liverpool – Barcelona’s standout player Pedri.

The future of the talented Spanish international has become a focal point of discussions lately. With just two years remaining on his contract come summer, Barcelona finds themselves at a crossroads.

Speculations have hinted at Liverpool’s interest in the 21-year-old midfielder. However, Fabrizio Romano has refuted such claims.

According to the journalist, there is currently no connection between Liverpool and Pedri, a stance he confidently asserts.

Furthermore, Romano has disclosed that discussions regarding a new contract for the young midfielder will soon commence between him and Barcelona.

He wrote in his Daily Briefing: “Despite what has been reported elsewhere, I can guarantee that there is nothing between Pedri and Liverpool, or between Liverpool and Barcelona for Pedri – the situation is completely quiet.

“Pedri is really happy and always super committed to Barcelona, and he’s a crucial part of the project at the Nou Camp.

“Of course, contract talks will have to take place in the next weeks and months – this will be one of the priorities for Barca after an agreement was reached for Pau Cubarsi (it’s just about the final details now); Pedri is another player who will speak to Barca about a new contract, talks will take place, but when PSG were interested in the past Pedri never wanted to entertain any talks because his full focus remains on Barcelona.

“So, a new contract will be a topic really soon between Pedri and Barca, and it’s also important to say that Liverpool have different priorities – a new centre-back, and a new player in the offensive positions, so these are the areas to watch, more than a big signing in midfield.”

At present, Liverpool haven’t made any moves for Pedri. The talented youngster seems inclined to stay at Barcelona, with discussions underway for a new contract.

However, if negotiations falter between the player and Barcelona, Liverpool might re-enter the conversation.

Should Barcelona fail to secure Pedri’s signature on a new contract this summer, they may contemplate selling him, recognising his current high market value compared to next year, when his contract will be closer to expiration.

The Catalan club would undoubtedly seek a substantial transfer fee for Pedri. His release clause stands at a staggering €1 billion, approximately £846 million, as reported by the Guardian.
